The highly anticipated boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson has been postponed.

Initially scheduled for July 20, 2024, the bout between the 27-year-old Paul and the 58-year-old Tyson was set to air on Netflix. However, it was announced on May 31 that Tyson is dealing with an “ulcer flare-up” and needs more time to recover. Consequently, Tyson will have to pause training, and the fight has been rescheduled for November 15.

“I want to thank my fans around the world for their support and understanding during this time. Unfortunately, due to my ulcer flare-up, I have been advised by my doctor to lighten my training for a few weeks to rest and recover,” Tyson said to Netflix.

Paul expressed his support for the postponement, stating, “I fully support postponing the event so Mike Tyson has no excuses come fight night. My fans know I don’t want to face Iron Mike at anything but his best, but let there be no mistake — when he steps into the ring with me, I will be ready to claim my W with a sensational finish. Paul vs. Tyson will be one for the ages, and I promise to bring my best for this once-in-a-lifetime matchup.”

In place of Tyson, Paul will now fight Mike Perry on July 20.

Netflix subscribers can watch the anticipated fight at no additional cost.

Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul

Jake Paul was born on January 17, 1997, in Cleveland, while Mike Tyson fought Evander Holyfield in a highly publicized match in Nevada just six months later, grossing $100 million.

Since this match has been sanctioned as a professional boxing event rather than an exhibition, regulated sportsbooks have posted odds. DraftKings Sportsbook lists Paul as a -240 favorite, with Tyson as a +180 underdog. However, some states won’t allow sportsbooks to offer bets on the fight.

The Paul vs. Tyson bout will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which can seat over 80,000 fans.

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson Preview

Paul holds a 9-1 record in his boxing career, with his only loss coming from Tommy Fury in February 2023. He has won his last two fights via knockout and has notable victories over former UFC stars Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva, and Tyron Woodley.

Paul’s second professional fight was in 2020, defeating former NBA player Nate Robinson on the undercard of Tyson’s fight with Roy Jones Jr.

“We’re about to produce the biggest fight in history, a fight in the biggest NFL stadium in the U.S., broadcast live on the biggest streaming platform in the world — a testament to all we’ve accomplished in such a short amount of time,” Paul said in a statement.

Tyson, once the best heavyweight and one of the most feared fighters in the world, hasn’t had a professional fight since 2005 and is about 30 years older than Paul. The nature of the fight, whether professional or exhibition, remains unclear.

Tyson’s last bout, an exhibition against Roy Jones Jr., ended in a split draw. He hasn’t fought since.

“It’s a full-circle moment that will be beyond thrilling to watch, as I started (Paul) on his boxing journey on the undercard of my fight with Roy Jones, and now I plan to finish him,” Tyson said in a statement.

Both fighters have prior collaborations with Netflix. Paul was featured in Netflix’s “Untold: Jake Paul the Problem Child,” while Tyson contributed to “Battle of the Baddest,” a documentary on Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou’s heavyweight fight in 2023.

This match presents uncharted territory for both. Tyson, almost 60, faces significant risk, while Paul’s momentum could be severely impacted by a loss to Tyson.
